Food Assistance Coordinator Bovet Tombola speaks to a family at a food distribution in Tshikula, Dibaya Territory, Kasai Centrale.
The young boy Jean, is 7; the baby girl is Kuila (1.5 years); the 12yo girl is Ndomba, and the mother is Ngawla. Their community was one of the first affected in the crisis in the Kasais; the village is close to that of Kamunia Nsapu, and many of the older children in the village were either members of the militia, or attacked and accused of being so.
After a year of conflict, starting again is a real challenge for these families. Many have planted corn, but it will be another 3 months before it will be ready to eat. WV & WFP are distributing food to 75,000 people in the worst affected parts of Dibaya territory this month, and previously reached over 28,000 in Kananga in August & September. Families receive cornflour, beans, oil, and salt, enough for a 2100kCal diet for 30 days.
