Peace in Mali: IBK paying tribute to his counterparts, Ould and Bouteflika

The Malian president, Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta alias IBK, expressed his deep thanks to his counterparts, the Mauritanian, Mohamed Ould Abdel, and the Algerian, Abdel Aziz Bouteflika, quoting them particularly in his New Year speech, for their contribution in search of peace in Mali, reported the APA News agency.

« I would like once again to appreciate and sincerely thank my friend and brother Mohamed Abdel Aziz for his quickness and availability« , declared at first the Malian president, by evoking the deadly fights of May in Kidal, in the Northeast of the country.

These fights between the army and the Tuareg rebel groups made about forty deaths on both sides before a visit on the field and mediation by the Mauritanian president reach an agreement of cease-fire.

The Malian Head of State, afterward, thanked his Algerian counterpart regarding a matter of dealing with the inter Malian peace process which next round is planned in January 2015 in Algiers.

« I seize the opportunity to praise my friend and brother, President Abdel Aziz Bouteflika and the Algerian government« , declared President Keïta by repeating his hope, during this next round, a preagreement between his government and the rebel groups of the North.

According to President Keïta who expressed himself in front of a crowd of journalists, in fact in Algiers, it will only be about the signing of a possible preagreement; the final signing of the peace agreement must happen in Bamako, the Malian capital town.
