African Media Initiative: the Cameroonian Eric Chinje appointed Managing Director

The board of directors of the African Media Initiative (AMI) promoted last Saturday the Cameroonian Eric Chinje at the executive management of the organization. With his 16 years spent in communication domain, the former journalist of the Radio Cameroon and Television (CRTV) has all the skills to effectively manage the AMI of which he will take control at the beginning of July.

The successor of Amadou M. Ba at the management of the African Media Initiative (AMI) was known since Saturday. In a memo published on the official site of the organization, the Chairman of the Board announced on Saturday to his collaborators, the appointment of the Cameroonian Eric Chinje.

« My colleagues and I are very impatient to work closely with him and with you all to move forward the main mandate of the AMI in the development of media sector in Africa », indicated Trevor Ncube.

The man is known by all in press environment. Famous presenter of the CRTV (1984-1991), he occupied several high functions on the international level in particular at KRL International in Washington. He also provided strategic pieces advice in communication for the governments of Liberia and South Sudan among others.

Former correspondent of CNN World Report, freelance journalist of the BBC World Service, the Voice of America, and the Deutsche Welle radio, Eric Chinje was also Director of strategic communications of the Mo Ibrahim Foundation in London.

At the African Media Initiative (AMI), he has for mission among others to strengthen the role of the AMI in the improvement of the quality of media in Africa; to strengthen the financial background of the Institution and to help African press companies to adopt ICTS and to make sure of sustainable incomes.

The AMI is a Pan-African organization based in Nairobi, Kenya which participates in the strengthening of the private media of Africa.
