SIMA 2014: strengthening Africain music market

After Yaoundé, it’s the turn of Dakar to welcome from 20th to 22nd November 2014, the African Music International Fair (SIMA), a major meeting for African music that will be held at Douta Seck Community Arts Center.

About 20 music bands from Africa and Diaspora will present « open and free concerts » during three days dedicated to this event.

According to the promoters, one of the ambitions is to contribute to the strengthening of African music market.

There will be among the highlights of the event, a music market, exhibition stands for professionals, Round Tables, workshops, speed meetings, prize-giving, shows cases and concerts.

« SIMA hopes to give solutions to needs identified by the professionals of African music, namely strengthening the African music market, supporting the professionalization of operators within markets, promoting and exporting African music to Africa and elsewhere« , explained a steering committee member.

The organizers of SIMA aspire to make to make of it « a springboard for the new African musical scene« .

The professional meetings organized prior to concerts, will gather about hundred operators to analyze the changes in the African musical sector and its stakes in the economic growth of the continent.

These meetings will deal with two Round Tables; the first one on the economy of the dematerialized music and the second on the private copy. The meetings also include a workshop with the Free zone network come in special delegation within the framework of Franconnexions.

During this event, there will also be an information and promotion platform for African music called « Music in Africa » that will welcome the Senegalese chorus-singer, Noumoucounda Cissoko and his trio in a concert.

The organization of a music market made up of about thirty exhibition stands of professional structures is also planned.
