At the end of a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mário Lopes da Rosa, the former president of the Republic of São Tomé and Principe, the very new representative of the UNO Secretary General in Guinea-Bissau, Miguel Trovoada (picture), called on Friday Bissau Guineans « to work at the development of the country in a peaceful climate« .

As reminder, Miguel Trovoada took function on Wednesday, 21st August as Special Representative of the United Nations General Secretary in Guinea-Bissau as a replacement of the former President of Timor-Leste and Nobel Prize for Peace prize winner, José Ramos Horta, whose mission came to an end last June.

This meeting is thus his first official meeting with the authorities of the country.

« Starting by the UNO Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, there is a will from the international community to do everything to help the people of Guinea-Bissau to set up the bases of development in a climate of peace and stability« , declared Mr. Trovoada.

The new Head of State of Guinea-Bissau, elected in May and invested to power on 23rd June 2014, is the fourth president democratically elected after João Bernardo Vieira, Kumba Yala and Malam Bacai Sanhá.

He is said to be supported by the army that is often at the origin of regime changes by force, and the international community.
