UNMOGIP: the Ghanaian Johnson Sakyi succeeding to the Korean Young-Bum Choi

Delali-Johnson-SakyiThe major general, Delali Johnson Sakyi has just been appointed by the UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, as army chief observer of the United Nations Military observer Group in India and in Pakistan (UNMOGIP).

Of Ghanaian origin, the general Sakyi has so succeeded to the major general Young-Bum Choi of the Republic of Korea.

According to a communiqué published on Wednesday by the UNO information Centre in Accra, the latter finished his two year mission on 16th June 2014.

With more than 35 years of experiences at national and international levels, the major general Sakyi very recently served as Commanding officer of the Force for the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).

His experience in peacekeeping domain includes a commanding officer’s post of the sector in Abidjan of the Operation of United Nations in Ivory Coast from 2008 to 2009 and the commanding officer of the contingent of Ghana in four peacekeeping operations  of the UNO and two operations of the ECOWAS.

According to the mandate of the UN Security Council registered in the resolution 307, the UNMOGIP observes and reports the cease-fire violations along and through the Line of Control between Jammu and the Cashmere, as well as developments that could lead to cease-fire violations.
